Israel kills 11 people in Lebanon as Hezbollah launches an attack on an Israeli position

A Lebanese group claims to have carried out a 'warning' attack in response to 'repeated' Israeli violations of the fragile ceasefire.

Israel has killed 11 people, including a State Security officer, in separate attacks in Lebanon, continuing its strikes despite a ceasefire with Hezbollah that took effect last week.

The fragile truce was severely tested on Monday when Israeli airstrikes killed two individuals, prompting Hezbollah to retaliate by attacking an Israeli military position. In response, Israel launched a series of air raids, resulting in the deaths of at least nine more people, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry.

Hezbollah described its action as a "preliminary defensive response" to what it called "repeated violations" of the ceasefire. The group targeted an Israeli military base in Kfar Chouba, a contested area claimed by Lebanon, citing deadly airstrikes, attacks on civilians in southern Lebanon, and unauthorized drone and jet activity over Lebanese territory, including Beirut.

Hezbollah stated that it resorted to the "warning" strike after appeals to stop the violations were unsuccessful. However, the attack did not deter further Israeli strikes, as Israel conducted additional air raids and vowed a "harsh" response to Hezbollah’s actions.
