Ansari, who is of Iranian heritage, described the actions of the Trump administration over the weekend as deeply disturbing and emotionally devastating.
She warned that the threats directed at Iran’s civilian infrastructure and the country as a whole are extreme and dangerously escalatory in nature.
“Iran is a nation of 90 million people,” she stated, adding that any suggestion of its annihilation amounts to a grave and inhumane war crime.
Ansari further accused Hegseth of enabling the conflict and overseeing what she called reckless military operations, which she claims have already resulted in thousands of civilian deaths, along with casualties among US service members.
The Arizona lawmaker also alleged that Hegseth has repeatedly breached constitutional limits, including bypassing Congress and engaging in what she termed the deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure.
