Hamas releases the first seven Israeli captives in Gaza
Israel has received the first seven captives released by Hamas, who were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza under a ceasefire agreement. An additional thirteen captives are expected to be freed later today.
Meanwhile, Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank are awaiting the release of nearly 2,000 detainees from Israeli prisons as part of the same deal.
U.S. President Donald Trump has arrived in Israel, where he is scheduled to address the Knesset and co-chair a summit in Egypt focused on the ceasefire agreement.
In northern Gaza, Palestinians continue returning to the ruins of their homes as limited humanitarian aid slowly enters the besieged territory.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry has named the seven captives released so far:
- Eitan Abraham Mor, 25
- Gali Berman, 28
- Ziv Berman, 28
- Omri Miran, 48
- Alon Ohel, 24
- Guy Gilboa-Dalal, 24
- Matan Angrest, 22
Since October 2023, Israel’s assault on Gaza has killed at least 67,806 people and injured 170,066. In Israel, 1,139 people were killed during the October 7, 2023 attacks, and around 200 individuals were taken captive.
