Israel strikes ports and a power plant in Yemen amid continued Houthi missile attacks
The Israeli military targets the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and as-Salif as Houthi forces persist in launching missiles at Israel
The Israeli military launched airstrikes on Sunday targeting three ports and a power plant in Houthi controlled areas of Yemen, triggering renewed missile attacks toward Israel by the rebel group.
According to Israeli military sources, the strikes hit the Red Sea ports of Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and as-Salif, along with the Ras Kathib power station. A radar system on the Galaxy Leader, a ship seized by the Houthis, was also targeted in Hodeidah.
These were Israel’s first strikes in Yemen in nearly a month and came after it intercepted a missile reportedly fired from Yemen earlier in the day. In retaliation, the Houthis launched two more missiles toward Israel early Monday, setting off sirens in Jerusalem, Hebron, and areas near the Dead Sea. No casualties or direct impacts were reported.
The Houthis claim their continued missile attacks are in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Since Israel’s military campaign began in Gaza in 2023, the group has fired hundreds of projectiles at Israel and launched over 100 attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea.
After a brief pause following the January ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, the Houthis resumed attacks in March after U.S. strikes on Yemen killed nearly 300 people.
Houthi spokesman Ameen Hayyan Yemeni claimed their air defenses repelled Israeli warplanes using domestically produced surface-to-air missiles, causing "confusion among enemy pilots." No material or human losses have been confirmed by the group, who say they are prepared for further confrontation.
Meanwhile, in Lebanon, Israeli forces bombed multiple Hezbollah linked targets in the south and the Bekaa region, including alleged weapons facilities and rocket launch sites. These strikes come despite a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah in November 2023, which Israel accuses the group of violating.
The latest flare ups occur amid delicate ceasefire negotiations over Gaza and heightened regional tensions following U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
