Israel kills at least 31 in Gaza amid worsening child starvation due to aid blockade
Medical sources report that Israeli airstrikes on Gaza claimed the lives of at least 31 people on Thursday, with further casualties confirmed following renewed attacks early Friday morning.
Israel’s two-month blockade on humanitarian aid has been described as a “deliberate strangulation” of Gaza’s civilian population by Al Jazeera’s correspondent on the ground.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that the primary objective of the ongoing military offensive in Gaza is not the rescue of Israeli hostages, but to secure “victory over our enemies.”
Gaza’s Health Ministry states that the conflict has so far resulted in at least 52,418 Palestinian deaths and 118,091 injuries. However, the Gaza Government Media Office places the death toll at over 61,700, citing thousands still missing under the rubble and presumed dead.
On October 7, 2023, approximately 1,139 people were killed in Israel during Hamas-led attacks, with over 200 individuals taken hostage.
