Trump selects pro-Israel Republican Elise Stefanik as U.N. envoy
Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has been nominated by Trump to serve as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Stefanik expressed her gratitude, calling the nomination a "true honor."
In a statement, she highlighted the challenges ahead, pointing to a rise in antisemitism and what she described as "catastrophically weak U.S. leadership" over the past four years, which, she argued, has compromised national security and hurt the U.S.'s global standing.
Representing New York, Stefanik has been a strong advocate for unconditional U.S. military support to Israel. In a recent address to the Israeli parliament, she voiced her commitment, and has previously suggested cutting funding to universities that permit protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza.
She is also a proponent of Trump's "maximum pressure" strategy toward Iran.
