India extends special military powers under AFSPA in Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh
New Delhi: The BJP-led Indian government has extended the draconian Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh for another six months from October 1.
The extension was announced through Gazette notifications issued by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday, following a review of the law and order situation in the three northeastern states.
In Manipur, the government has extended the “disturbed area” declaration across the state.
