US and Iranian negotiators are expected to return to Islamabad later this week for a second round of talks, following recent high-level discussions that ended without a breakthrough but also without collapsing. Pakistan, which hosted the talks, is in contact with both sides and working to finalize dates, with the weekend being a likely window.

Efforts are also underway to extend the April 22 ceasefire to create space for continued diplomacy. While Iran has signaled openness to further engagement, the US maintains that Tehran must respond to its “final offer,” with key disagreements particularly over Iran’s nuclear programe and verification mechanisms still unresolved.

Back channel diplomacy, led by Pakistan and supported by regional players, continues to push both sides toward renewed negotiations and a possible extension of the truce.
