Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a phone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) following the arrival of a United States aircraft carrier in the region, amid rising concerns of a potential new conflict involving Iran, Israel, or the US.

The move comes as Washington has signaled in recent weeks that it is weighing military action against Iran, citing Tehran’s crackdown on protests that has reportedly resulted in thousands of deaths. US President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of the  Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier to the region as tensions escalated.

During the call, Pezeshkian criticized what he described as US “threats,” telling the Saudi leader that such actions were intended to undermine regional security and would only deepen instability. According to a statement from his office, the Iranian president pointed to ongoing economic pressure and foreign interference, saying these measures had failed to weaken the resolve or awareness of the Iranian people.

Saudi Arabia, for its part, welcomed the dialogue. A statement said Crown Prince Mohammed reaffirmed Riyadh’s commitment to regional stability, security, and development, stressing the importance of unity among Islamic nations. He rejected any form of aggression or escalation against Iran and expressed Saudi Arabia’s readiness to contribute to peace and stability across the region.

The Saudi Press Agency later reported that the crown prince assured Pezeshkian that the Kingdom would not allow its airspace or territory to be used for military operations against Iran. He also reiterated Saudi support for resolving disputes through dialogue to enhance regional security.

Pezeshkian thanked Saudi Arabia for its stance on respecting Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and praised the crown prince’s diplomatic efforts to promote regional stability.

The call took place as President Trump renewed his warnings against Iran, claiming another “armada” was moving toward the country, while expressing hope that Tehran would accept US demands. Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned neighboring states that while they are considered friends, any use of their land, airspace, or waters against Iran would be treated as hostile.

Tensions remain high following Israeli strikes on Iran in June 2025 targeting senior military figures, nuclear scientists, and facilities, followed by US attacks on three Iranian nuclear sites during a 12-day conflict. The war disrupted planned negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, and talks have yet to resume.

While Washington says it remains open to dialogue, analysts say Iran is unlikely to concede under pressure. Iranian officials have warned that any military strike would provoke retaliation and that insecurity in the region would have consequences beyond Iran itself.
