Israel’s lethal assault on Hamas in Qatar sparks worldwide condemnation

Smoke rises after blasts were heard in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday

Israel has carried out a strike targeting Hamas leadership in Doha, the capital of Qatar, prompting widespread international condemnation.

According to Hamas, five of its members were killed in the attack, among them the son of senior leader Khalil al-Hayya. A Qatari security officer also lost his life.

Qatar denounced the strike as a “cowardly act,” stressing that it had received no prior warning from the United States. France labeled the attack “unacceptable,” the United Kingdom said it was a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, and Saudi Arabia condemned it as “a brutal Israeli aggression.”

Since October 2023, Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 64,605 people and wounded 163,319, with thousands more believed to remain trapped under the rubble. By contrast, the October 7 attacks in Israel left 1,139 people dead and around 200 taken captive.
