Israel Strikes Gaza and Syria as Concern Grows Over Starving Children
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reports that one in every ten children examined at its clinics in Gaza is suffering from malnutrition, as Israel’s ongoing blockade of the territory contributes to a worsening, man made starvation crisis.
Israeli forces have intensified their assault on Gaza, killing at least 61 Palestinians on Tuesday alone. The casualties include 23 individuals in the Shati refugee camp and two others near the US backed GHF site in Rafah.
In a broader regional escalation, the Israeli military has also launched airstrikes in eastern Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of 12 people, and bombed the Druze-majority town of Suwayda in southern Syria, where armed groups are engaged in clashes with Syrian government forces.
Meanwhile, representatives from 30 countries have gathered in Bogotá, Colombia, for a high-level summit aimed at halting Israel’s offensive in Gaza and addressing its continued occupation of Palestinian territories.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israel’s war on Gaza has so far claimed at least 58,479 lives and left 139,355 wounded. In Israel, approximately 1,139 people were killed during the October 7, 2023, attacks, with over 200 individuals taken hostage.
