Thirty-one-gun salute takes place after Fajr prayer in Islamabad, 21-gun salute at provincial capitals to mark the day

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs and armed forces of Pakistan who secured a decisive victory in Marka-e-Haq following Indian aggression earlier this month.

In a statement issued on the occasion of Youm-e-Tashakur, the premier said the day was being observed to thank Allah Almighty for the remarkable success against Indian provocation.

Recalling the night of May 6–7, the PM said India launched a cowardly attack, martyring innocent civilians and compelling Pakistan to respond forcefully. “In just a few hours, a much larger enemy was brought to its knees. Their pride, the Rafale jets, were reduced to ashes by our Shaheens,” he said.

Shehbaz commended the professionalism and courage of the Pakistan armed forces, noting they “responded in the enemy’s language” and foiled hostile designs with precision. “Their airbases and weapon stockpiles turned to rubble in the blink of an eye,” he added.

The Prime Minister also saluted the leadership of Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf for their role in defending the nation’s frontiers.

He stressed the success was not just military, but a triumph of Pakistan’s national honour and unity. “The entire nation stood shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces like a fortified wall.”

The premier also thanked all political parties, both opposition and allied, for showing historic solidarity and exemplary unity.
