Gaza school shelters targeted in Israel’s deadliest offensives

Israel’s deadly strike on the Fatima Bint Asad School in the Jabalia refugee camp earlier today marks the latest in a troubling pattern of attacks on educational institutions sheltering displaced Palestinians in Gaza.
Here is a summary of some of the most devastating incidents:
November 2023: Early in the conflict, Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling killed at least 50 people, including children, inside al-Buraq School in Gaza City.
November 2023 (two separate incidents): The Al Fakhoura School in the Jabalia refugee camp was hit twice within two weeks, resulting in at least 65 deaths.
July 2024: An Israeli attack on al-Awda School in the town of Abasan near Khan Younis claimed the lives of at least 30 people.
August 2024: Over 100 people were killed when Israeli forces bombed al-Tabin School in Gaza City as worshippers gathered for morning prayers.
April 2025: At least 33 Palestinians were killed and more than 100 injured during airstrikes targeting three schools in Gaza City's Tuffah neighborhood.
According to UN experts, Israel’s repeated targeting of civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, may constitute war crimes.
